UK Technology First for Glastonbury Letting Agent

UK Technology First for Glastonbury Letting Agent Glastonbury letting agent, Jungle Property may be setting the scene for other agents with its latest offering. Jungle Property is placing ‘QR’ codes on all its ‘To Let’ boards to allow anyone interested in a property to see additional details and pictures by scanning the code with their mobile phone.

A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode readable with mobile phones with a camera and ‘smart’ mobile phones (smartphones). The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on white background.

QR is the initialism of Quick Response, as the creator intended the code to allow its contents to be decoded at high speed.

QR codes are becoming a digital industry standard being readable by most smartphones. The number of smartphone users in the UK has increased by a massive 70% in the last year to 11 million. As smartphones are becoming more affordable it is expected that the amount of people using them will increase considerably over the coming years. Users with a camera phone equipped with the correct reader application can scan the image of the QR Code to display text, contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a web page in the phone's browser.

Jungle Property is introducing this technology very early to bring the benefits of having QR codes displayed outside properties. Would-be tenants simply scan the code with their phone to reveal full property details, pictures of the interior and the rent on the spot.

Head of WOW! at Jungle Property, Tom Morgan, said of the decision to launch this idea “Estate agents and letting agents have been leveraging technology in recent years with developments such as Google Maps and iPhone apps. Any technology that gives tenants information faster will benefit landlords, tenants and agents alike.”

QR codes are very common in Japan where they were first used in 1994. Although initially used for tracking parts in vehicle manufacturing, QR Codes are now used in a much broader context, including both commercial tracking applications and convenience-oriented applications aimed at mobile phone users.

To celebrate the launch of QR codes, Jungle Property have placed a giant QR code at the junction of Princes Road and Priory Road in Wells. Anyone who scans the giant QR code and enters their details before 12th November will be entered into a free prize draw.
